League of Friends - Charity No. 249466
The Trolley Service was started many years back to enable patients and staff to be able to purchase their daily newspapers and magazines from their bedside or ward. We operate two trolleys each day, one to the East Wing, and one to the West Wing, which also incorporates the Neurology Wing. The average distance covered during each trolley round is about 4.5 miles per day.
As well as papers, the trolleys also carry a variety of cold drinks, biscuits and sweets. A very limited range of toiletries is also carried, but lack of space does limit the range of goods available. You can also ask our volunteers if we have any headsets if you wish to listen to Hospital Radio.
On most days a trolley will operate on each wing, setting out at about 8.30am. On rare occasions a trolley may not run, either due to volunteers ill health or because of a lack of available help in the holiday season. If you are interested in becoming one of these helpers in the place where interaction between patients and volunteers is at its greatest, please contact us.
